Garvin Ricco Floyd was born on August 13, 1969 to Lucille Burton (Step father- James Burton) and father Pete Davis. Before being called into the ministry Garvin grew up in the Projects in KY where he learned to “fight or flight”. His whole life was centered around fighting because of bullies both in school and his neighborhood. At the age of 6 he began taking martial arts where he earned 7 different styles of black belts. Such as: Taekwondo, jujitsu, Ninjitsu, kung fu and karate just to name a few. He also boxed and fought in the UFC.

As he got older his fighting status grew and so did his problems, from being thrown in jail to becoming a drug dealer but God had a purpose! Exodus 9:16 But I may show my power in you, and that my name may be declared in all the earth. While selling drugs on a well-known street he heard the voice of God audibly in the midst of the “noise”. That is where Garvin learned the grace of God. Romans 3: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

Shortly afterwards he met a girl who would introduce him to God by inviting him to church as a 1st date. It was at that church he started dealing with a call on his life. He accepted his calling in 1993 and preached his first sermon at Elizabeth Predestinarian church where he also obtained a degree in Hermeneutics from McNeese Bible Academy and organized the first youth gospel explosion. Later, by the leading of the Holy Spirit he moved to First Baptist church under Robert R. Blythe in Richmond, KY for 10 years and attended Simmon’s Bible College where he studied theology. There he became the Sunday School Superintendent, implemented a puppet ministry and also learned how to handle church business. Feeling the call to become a pastor and help rebuild struggling churches he interned in Casey County, KY for 2yrs. before becoming a full-time Pastor at Hope Full Gospel Church in Danville, KY in 2007. Pastor Floyd remained in Danville for 4yrs until he was introduced to the Church of God in 2010. He graduated from the CAM’s program and shortly afterwards from the MIP (Ministerial Internship Program) in 2012. And so, after completing the requirements for the Church of God he moved to pastor at New Life Community C.O.G. in Lebanon, KY and then at Word of Life C.O.G. in Chicago, IL. where he obtained the highest rank in the church of God as Ordained Bishop in 2017, sat on the youth board council, Chicago Alderman advisory board, young adult empowerment board at Stein Metz College Prep and Westside housing authority board.

26 years ago Garvin married Maria, that girl who invited him to church as a first date and they have 4 children combined along with 7 grandchildren. Currently, they pastor at Mt. Airy C.O.G. in Philadelphia and is expecting God to do a mighty work in the areas of: Soul winning, Spiritual Growth and bringing communities together.

On numerous occasions Pastor Floyd has spoken at different conferences such as: Asbury College(KY); Korean Christian Church (KY); Hmong youth Conference (Milwaukee, Wisconsin); Korean Living water retreat (North Carolina); Neumafest (Ohio State University) and Korean Charis Christian church. He has also, had the privilege of being the chaplain for chronic pain support since 2006 in Lexington, KY where he ministers to those with chronic illness and the bereaved. In 2014 he had the pleasure of doing the commencement speech at his daughter’s graduation (Stein Metz prep school) in Chicago, IL.

Because of his journey Gavin believes he’s been called to pull out gifts and callings in other’s despite their struggles. And although he stopped fighting in the physical he’ll never stop fighting in the spiritual. One of his favorite scripture is: Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. His motto is: Don’t take my meekness for weakness!
